Finalists selected in the 2010 Mining Industry Skills Centre Training Awards

A group of high performing apprentices, trainees, trainers and organisations from the Australian resources sector will vie for national recognition after being selected as finalists for the 2010 Mining Industry Skills Centre Training Awards.

 

This year, the Mining Industry Skills Centre received nominations from around Australia and has selected finalists from New South Wales, Northern Territory, Western Australia and Queensland.

 

Over the next two weeks the Awards judges will be travelling far and wide to conduct on-site interviews, from which the winners will be chosen.

 

As the resources industry’s most prestigious training and skilling awards, the Mining Industry Skills Centre’s Training Awards recognise exceptional commitment and outstanding achievement in the industry.

 

The Mining Industry Skills Centre’s CEO Mr Derek Hunter said that once again, the Skills Centre was overwhelmed by the record number of high-calibre nominations for the Training Awards.

 

”Each year, we are seeing an increase in the number of high quality entries into our Awards and this year is certainly no exception,” Mr Hunter said.

 

“This year we have finalists from around the country including New South Wales, Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland. At the Skills Centre we are proud to see that our Training Awards continue to be representative of the innovative and quality work being undertaken in the industry, nationwide.

 

“We are pleased to recognise all the finalists, whether they are apprentices, trainees, trainers, or companies and we look forward to acknowledging their contribution to the resources industry at the Training Awards Dinner.”

 

Winners will be announced at The 2010 Mining Industry Skills Centre Training Awards Dinner being held at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre on September 3rd.

 

About the Training Awards

 

Nominations for the Training Awards officially closed on May 28th. After the closing date two representatives from the Mining Industry Skills Centre and a panel of external judges selected from the Skills Centre’s Strategic Leaders Group began reviewing the nominations. Three finalists were selected for each category with more than 40 trainees, apprentices, trainers, and companies being shortlisted for the Awards.

 

The 2010 Training Awards categories include:

 


Trainee of the Year


This Award acknowledges outstanding achievement and ongoing commitment by trainees in the Australian resources industry.

 

Apprentice of the Year


This Award acknowledges the outstanding achievement and ongoing commitment of employees at this level of our industry and is open to all apprentices who are enrolled as an apprentice of have completed their apprenticeship in the previous 12 months.


Individual Award for Excellence in Training


This Award acknowledges the outstanding achievement and an ongoing commitment by those involved in all aspects of the delivery of training to the Australian resources industry. This category was open to all trainers and assessors as well as training administers and coordinators.

 

Company Awards


These Awards acknowledge the outstanding achievement and ongoing commitment of Registered Training Organisations and resources companies to the development and delivery of training with the Australian industry.

Innovation Award


This important Award recognise innovation in by companies, service providers and individuals who have pushed the boundaries using innovative processes and practices in workforce planning and workforce development across the Australian resources industry.
